We strive to make the design process as transparent as possible. As we work through the design process together, we can figure out a lot of the little things that will come up. Because app/website design is not something that most people do on a daily basis, they don’t necessarily think of these important design features.
Even simple ideas benefit from the design process
Even though the idea many people have for their app may sound simple, when you have to break down the technology behind it to make it happen, it can get complicated. A lot of smaller decisions will need to be made at each step in the process. For instance, if you want to have a system in which users need to ‘log in’ to your platform, it may sound simple enough to say, “Let’s add profiles!”.
However, many smaller decisions will need to be made within the design phase for something as familiar as a profile system. For example, what sorts of information do you want to collect when the user creates a new profile? Should it just be a username and password, should the user have a profile picture, would you want the new user to input their name, address, email, phone number, etc.? Naturally, only the most relevant information is needed, but that is a simple example of “small” design consideration.

Other considerations with a profile system would be, how does a user change the password? Can users message each other? Would you as the Admin have the ability to remove a user? Can users upload files to your platform? How do you as the Admin maintain quality control over each users activities? You get the idea, even seemingly small implementations can have a lot of design decisions.
So if someone has a basic idea of what they want an app to do, I will come in and help them figure out what kind of features they may want it to have. I will ask them some questions, based on my experience as a developer, to help them figure things out. Doing this preproduction can potentially save you a lot of money and hassle in the future.
