There are a few people that I’ve created some interactive mockups for that are out there right now kind of shopping around, and they are getting great feedback. So high fidelity really helps when it comes to showing off your idea and trying to get more people on board.
So having a high fidelity prototype is ideal to get a lot of the details figured out ahead of time. That way you can decide how things are going to operate before you can dive into programming.
All of this preproduction is a lot less expensive than having someone create a fully coded mockup of your app. Because as you start getting programmers involved, and high end graphic designers, the price begins to skyrocket.
Staying Creative while Keeping Your Costs Down
The benefit of good preproduction and high fidelity, is that the programmers and the developers know exactly what you want, because they can feel it. And they can see how it all functions together and they are not trying to interpret what you are saying. So the development cycle is a lot smoother and the overall cost is a lot more manageable.
This is really a two-step process. You really want to start with the low fidelity process so the creator can see how they’re describing the app is translating in the real world. Then from there, they can begin to add some additional interactions to it.
I’ve had some people just stop at the low fidelity phase and others who have decided that they want to go all the way to incorporating the high fidelity, interactive features. So it just depends on where the creator might be financially or how comfortable they feel with what they have to go find a developer, whether it’s 3r Interactive, LLC or not.
But your chances of winning the emotional support you need from a spouse or significant other, the cash from a potential investor, or the approval of senior management – all increase significantly when you use a high fidelity mockup.
